week 7

With the coming of the new software, i decided to re-do our movie, as i was not quite satisfied with it. I didn't tell Emese about it, wanted to try it myself, and see if it's gonna work.
First of all, I decided to change the song from George Michael's "Amazing" to One Public's "Apologize". I prefer it to the previous one because of the beats, and also the whole singing and all small breaks between some parts.

I managed to finish the work till 10 p.m. and went home. I think this version is much better, as I didn't put any of those weird video effects, as making huge contrasts, putting all in red and black, and colourful scenes. And what i liked in the program is that it finally had the speed up and slow motion effects. I could manipulate them easily. I enjoyed working along actually, as no one was dictating anything, i was free to do whatever i want, and i was experimenting a lot.

One of the main problems i had was the fact that we didn't have many shots taken. So, it was really hard to crop and copy same parts every time, but in a different way. I think I tried my best, now let's see what the public will say about it.

week 6

This week me and Emese made the editing of our video. Mostly we had to use lots of special effects, as the shot material was not of the greatest quality. (lack of light, wrong camera movements - it was due to the fact that we didn't have much time to watch after little things, which was a huge mistake as we see now.)
Was very difficult to make speed up and slow motions, because that day we didn't have the new software; and we had to import-export the file many times from one program to another, what caused loss of quality even more.
Most probably we will re-do the editing next week with the new soft, 'cause now we can see clearly where we made mistakes, and some solutions for making it look better.

Week 5

Assignment #2

Now the group consists of Me, Fathir and Emese. After brainstorming we settled on an idea of Emese. The song is called "Amazing" of George Michael.
We decided to make something like a parody to him, so it's going to be a movie about love between two girls. :) Guess, who are gonna play them! ))

The action starts actually in an old collapsing house, where Emese is sitting in front of her laptop drawing her ideal girl. Then that drawing comes alive , starts moving . Emese gets up and jumps into the screen to find that girl. And the last scene is about those two girls dancing and kissing at the end. :D

Waiting forward to edit it and watch it from the beggining till the end. :)

Week 4

The editing was quite easy for us, as we didn't actually have a script for this assignment. I was in a group with Fathir, and he wanted to make an absolutely experimental movie, so he just gave me the cameras, and let me shoot whatever i want.
Well, after listening to the song once again, i felt like shooting a film with no people in it, besides maybe the main hero. So, i decided to take at least one camera with me on evening walks and shoot empty streets, yellow lights and beautiful snow falling. Also took some shots in a tram no.6, looks interesting ina Go Pro cam, Fathir liked that as well. And then i decided why not go away from the croud and cars and civilization, to a forest for example. And so i went there, had fun trying different things and stealing through one's private zone. :))

Week 3

This week we got new cameras, Go Pro.
After trying them I've decided to use it for the first assignment (the experimental one).
and it turned out good.
It can make even the most boring shot look great. :)
I went to a forest which is at the last 61 tram stop. Was a sunny day, but show was still on the ground, so it was quite cold, and i spent there for about 2 hours, i guess.

But I liked experimenting alone, I took both cameras (the old one and a go pro), and tried to use both of them for different shots. When i first saw the Go Pro cam one idea came into my mind, to tie the cam to my leg and shoot while walking. Well, i certainly tried it out. But later, when i looked at it on a computer i was actually disappointed by the result, it wasn't what i wanted. :(
Maybe that was because of the snow on the ground, it was hard to walk, or maybe that's because i was walking too fast. i don't know, but i need to try it once again one day.
One more thing i didn't have a chance to try is shooting under water. Would be great to experiment with that as well.

Week 2

This week we learned a little bit of genre. Main differences between them.
Watched many photos and videos.

Was quite interesting, though these things seem obvious, such as that lighting in a teenage musical is different (brighter, shinier) from a black and white detective film (usually with only one strong light or two). And also costumes and make-up, characters and acting.

Week 1

What do I expect to get from this course?

First of all, need to say that I'm really interested in this module, as I'm into musics and I like watching clips with a high quality. And that's a huge problem in my country: people don't know how to make a good video clip for a song. So, maybe I'll find myself consulting directors and camera men soon in future. :)

What I expect to learn out of this module is, to say in short, to understand main differences between a film and a music clip, find out the best solutions for shooting a good video, of course.
Well, and i hope to get great movies done during the semester. =)
